Choose between a selected section and a whole-page archive
A short Notion section is often best moved by copy: select the title, supporting paragraphs, list and links that a Word document actually needs. A complete page, a tree of subpages or a database is a different job. Notion's export options are the better starting point when completeness and an archive matter more than an editable handoff.
Do not treat those routes as interchangeable. A selected copy is a deliberate excerpt. An export carries more material but can include files, nested pages or database data that do not map cleanly to a Word document. Decide which record you are creating before moving anything.

Keep structure, leave workspace chrome behind
A useful Word document needs document structure: a title, headings, ordinary paragraphs, lists, links and data tables. It does not need Notion's page icon, navigation, database controls, comments or block handles. Select the content body without those surrounding interface elements, then compare the first converted section against the source before moving the entire page.
The clipboard may contain both rich text and plain text. Rich content can preserve semantic structure, but it can also carry source presentation that does not belong in Word. Pasteful prepares semantic headings, lists, links and tables without copying page chrome, fonts or layout CSS. Keep the original Notion page open while you decide whether the converted structure says the same thing.
- Page title → Word document title
- Notion heading → real Word heading level
- Toggle or callout → ordinary labelled paragraph
- Database row → a reviewable table or labelled list
- Workspace link → meaningful link text and destination

Choose rich copy for an existing document and DOCX for a standalone file
Use rich copy when the Notion content is one section of a document that already exists in Word. Paste at the intended point, then choose the Word paste option that fits the document's house style. Use a DOCX download when the selection should become a separate file, needs to travel as an attachment or should begin with Word-native document structure.
Neither route decides that the wording is correct. Review headings, list order, link destinations and table columns after the paste or download. The advantage of a structured route is that Word receives editable elements, not a screenshot or an imitation made from hard returns and bold text.

Use Word's structure checks, not just its visual appearance
A line can look like a heading while still being a large bold paragraph. Open Word's Navigation Pane and check that the intended heading levels appear in order. Continue one numbered list with Enter. Click every labelled link. For a table, confirm that the rows and headers are real cells rather than aligned text that will break as soon as somebody edits it.
Microsoft's paste options have different effects. Keep Source Formatting can retain direct source styling. Merge Formatting can adopt the surrounding document style while retaining useful emphasis. Keep Text Only removes formatting and can turn a table into paragraphs. Choose intentionally, then review the structure the same way you would review a document written directly in Word.

Review the blocks that need a human decision
Notion databases, synced blocks, comments, embeds, equations, files, page permissions and complex multi-column layouts are not ordinary document paragraphs. Decide how each one should appear in Word. A database may need a small table, an appendix or a link to the live source. An embedded file needs the file itself or a clear link. A comment may need to become a tracked editorial note, not body text.
Keep a final comparison step. Read the Word document from top to bottom, check its accessible outline and make sure a reader can understand it without access to the original Notion workspace. Pasteful can make the transfer mechanical and local; deciding what the document should communicate remains the work that only the author or reviewer can do.
