The quick fix for missing ChatGPT bullet points
Copy one complete response with ChatGPT's copy button. Paste it into Pasteful, choose Word and check the Preview. When each item is still a list item, choose Copy rich text and paste into Word with Keep Source Formatting.
If the list needs to match an existing report or template, try Merge Formatting instead. That keeps useful emphasis while asking Word to apply the surrounding document style. Check the list again because a document template can change indentation or numbering.

Why ChatGPT bullets turn into hyphens or plain paragraphs
A list can travel through the clipboard as structured rich text or as plain characters. In Markdown, a hyphen or number at the start of a line describes a list. If Word receives only plain text, it may show those markers without creating real list paragraphs.
The copy method matters too. Selecting a large part of the ChatGPT page can include interface text, miss the last line or collapse the boundaries between blocks. Copying the complete response gives the formatter a cleaner input. Pasteful then creates semantic list elements instead of copying ChatGPT's fonts and page styling.
Choose the right Word paste option
Microsoft documents three main paste choices for text from another program. Keep Source Formatting retains the prepared source formatting. Merge Formatting discards most direct styling but retains emphasis such as bold and italic. Keep Text Only removes formatting and non-text elements.
For a clean list transfer, start with Keep Source Formatting. Use Merge Formatting when the list should adopt your document's font and paragraph styles. Keep Text Only is the deliberate reset option; use it only when you are prepared to rebuild the list structure.

Fix nested bullets and numbered steps
Nested lists fail when their parent and child relationship is reduced to spaces. In Preview, check that each sub-point sits beneath the correct main point. After pasting, click inside the list and use Word's list controls if a house template has overridden the intended level.
Numbered procedures need an extra check. Confirm that Word continues the sequence when you press Enter, that a second numbered list restarts where intended, and that an explanatory bullet has not been converted into the next numbered step.

On iPhone or iPad, copy the response, open Pasteful in Safari and use the Paste action. If Safari blocks direct clipboard access, press and hold inside the editor and choose Paste. Download DOCX when mobile rich paste is unreliable or when the response should become a new document.

If the list still looks wrong
Diagnose the visible failure instead of repeating the same paste. Literal hyphens usually mean Word received plain text. Correct bullets with the wrong font usually need Merge Formatting. A list that looks right but does not continue with Enter may be visually aligned paragraphs rather than a real Word list.
Pasteful preserves the structure it can read, but it cannot recover list levels that are already missing from the copied text. Return to ChatGPT, copy the complete response again and compare the first nested item in Preview before copying.

Check that the result is a real list
A visual check is not enough. Put the cursor at the end of one item and press Enter. Word should create the next bullet or number. Open the Navigation Pane when the response also contains headings, and confirm that the document structure remains understandable without relying on font size alone.
This check matters for accessibility and later editing. Real lists can be continued, reordered and read as lists by assistive technology. A row of manually typed bullet characters may look similar but behaves like ordinary paragraphs.
