Hidden Unicode
The default cleanup removes zero-width characters, soft hyphens, byte-order marks, directional controls, variation selectors and related invisible formatting marks. These characters can come from many sources and do not prove AI authorship. The change count and diff remain visible.
Typography cleanup
Curly quotes become straight quotes, em and en dashes become a normal spaced hyphen, ellipses become three stops, and unusual Unicode spaces become ordinary spaces. Fenced code is protected from typography replacement.
Markdown repair
The repair pass handles mismatched bold headings, missing heading spaces and a narrow class of run-on word joins. It is optional because source text can contain intentional mixed-case identifiers.
