Why the markers appear
ChatGPT can produce headings, double-asterisk bold, links, checklists, tables and code blocks. WhatsApp recognises a smaller message syntax. A normal paste can leave hashes and double asterisks visible or flatten the hierarchy. People report this regularly; the copied answer is usually fine, but the two apps read it differently.

Keep the structure that matters
Deleting every marker also removes useful structure. A better conversion turns headings into bold lines, keeps nested lists readable and writes labelled links with both the label and URL.
- Headings become bold lines
- Double-asterisk bold becomes single-asterisk bold
- Tables become labelled rows
- Unsupported HTML is flattened safely

Before sending, WhatsApp needs literal markers such as one asterisk around bold text. The sent message renders those markers as formatting. What WhatsApp can format
