Signal documents a composer workflow: type a message, select the text and choose bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace or spoiler. It does not publish a Markdown paste grammar for ordinary messages.

That means surrounding words with familiar Markdown characters is not a reliable conversion. Asterisks and underscores may remain visible, especially when the text originated in an AI answer or Markdown editor.

Use rich copy with a plain fallback

For a normal paste, copy both semantic HTML and plain text when the browser supports it. The destination chooses the representation it accepts. The plain version should already have clean list markers, sensible spacing and written-out links.

Spoilers are different: they are native Signal message entities. Apply a spoiler in Signal rather than disguising it with generic markers.

Keep the message useful if styling disappears

The message should not depend on bold to convey the only copy of a date, owner or warning. Use explicit labels such as Date:, Owner: and Status:. That keeps the meaning intact when a client strips presentation formatting.

Review the final composer before sending. Pasteful can prepare the clipboard, but Signal remains the authority on the message it will transmit.
